  Marpol Implementation  
  This course covers all the Annexes of Marpol 73/78 and Oil Pollution Act 90 in detail. Practical training for engineers is given on 15ppm oily water separator monitoring equipment especially on maintenance and testing. Deck officers and engineers given training on computer based simulator on oil discharge monitoring and control equipment. Training given on correct log entries oil Record Book and garbage log.

Contents of the course

  • Marpol Annex 1 regulations on discharge of oily water - its implementation.
  • Calculation of sludge generation and filling up of Oil Record Book.
  • Use of ODMCE.
  • Annex IV - Methods of handling sewage.
  • Annex V - Garbage Handling & Log Keeping.
  • Annex VI - Rules and NOx Technical Code.
 
 
  Navigation Safety Campaign  
  This Campaign is run to bring into focus the causes leading to Navigational accidents that have occurred in the fleet. Approximately 8 case studies are taken dealing with collisions, groundings, anchoring errors and accidents caused to due Weak master-pilot interaction. The campaign has been found to be very effective in highlighting navigational errors both technical and human as they depict realistic scenarios.
The case studies complete with time sheet, statement of fact, copies of logs and digital printouts are given to officers and the group leader presents the “immediate causes”, “basic causes” and “corrective action” to be taken.

Contents of the course

  • To highlight the various causes that have lead to navigational errors which in turn resulted in serious accident.
  • To carry out a root cause analysis of numerous case studies to arrive at the basic causes that lead to collision or grounding.
  • Lessons learnt to be applied in practice when on board ship.
 
 
  Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities  
  This is an Indian DG approved course, part of the STCW95 mandatory requirement (Section A-VI/1-4) of all personnel joining ship other than supernumeraries should have a basic knowledge relating to personal safety and social responsibilities and be able to :
1. Comply with emergency procedures.
2. Take precautions to prevent pollution of the marine environment.
3. Observe safe working practices.
4. Understand orders and be understood in relation to shipboard duties.
5. Contribute to effective human relationships on board ship.

Contents of the course

  • Types of Emergency which may occur, such as collision, fire, foundering.
  • Knowledge of shipboard contingency plans for response to emergencies.
  • Emergency signals and specific duties allocated to crew members in the muster list; muster stations; correct use of personal safety equipment.
  • Internal Communication System.
  • Pollution Prevention.
  • Entry into enclosed spaces.
  • Ability to understand orders and to Communication with others using Standard Marine Communication Phrases.
  • Drug and Alcohol Abuse.
  • Safe Working Practices and Accident Prevention All officers.
 
 
  Port State Control  
  Port State Control have recently become very stringent and are using computer generated matrix is to target substandard ships. The detentions and deficiencies noted during an inspection is available for anyone to view over the internet and an adverse report could jeopardize the earning capacity of the vessel. It is important that the ship staff understand the implications of such inspections and prepare the vessel to pass such an inspection with a clean slate.

  • Port State Control Inspection Procedures as laid down by IMO Resolution A787 (19).
  • Preparing for a Port State Control Inspection.
  • The Inspection – Its Conduct.
  • Type of Deficiency Report and Grounds for Detention.
  • Reporting Procedure and Corrective Action – On Receipt of a PSC Deficiency Report.
  • Port State Control Statistics on Deficiencies and Detentions – Pitfalls and Common Deficiencies Reported.
 
 
  Shipboard Safety Officers' Course  
  This Course is meant to help officers to increase their level of safety awareness and use techniques mentioned therein to provide a good safe working environment. The course also educates officers in identifying occupational hazards and improving their level of safety consciousness. Completion of this course is mandatory for Safety Officers / Representatives onboard ships registered in U.K, Australia, Norway and for the offshore industry it is recommended by OPITO (Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation).
