| Ship To Ship Transfer (lightering) Operations Course

Course Description
The aim of this course is to train Masters / Deck officers in the Ship-to-Ship oil transfer procedures and emphasizes the critical points that must be noted if accidents are to be avoided right through all the key stages, from earliest pre-planning to the final unmooring and separation.
Exercises are conducted on Full Mission Navigation Simulator
- Coming alongside and connecting to mother vessel
- Casting off
- while underway or
- at anchor
Contents of the course
- Pre-planning of mooring arrangements including fendering systems.
- Thorough preparation and checking of all equipment well in advance. Deployment of Yokohama fenders.
- Use of OCIMF Guidelines to ensure safe and trouble free operation.
- The need for clear and effective communication between the ships for planning of transfer area.
- The use of approved Check Lists at all stages.
- The preparation of contingency plans and their activation in case necessary.
- Shiphandling and Manoeuvring to come alongside / cast of safely.
